What does Isvara mean? Is it a type of Yoga?

Isvara is the 5th Niyama of yoga. Niyamas are observances or guidelines of personal behavior. Isvara means self-surrender/devotion. Hatha yoga is the foundation for all classes and practiced at Isvara.

If I am a beginner what classes should I take?

Isvara 1 classes are beginning hatha style classes for anyone new or returning to yoga.

What does Yoga Mean?

Yoga dates back more than 5,000 years and is a Sanskrit word, which means union, join or to yoke. Unifying the mind, body and spirit connection.

What is a Dana class?

Dana is the gift of giving. Because we want to share the gift of yoga with everyone, all “Dana” classes are donation based. Give what you can or what’s in your heart without judgement.

There are so many benefits of a regular practice, but just to name a few. It has preventive, therapeutic and restorative benefits. Yoga helps to stimulate major organs, glands, nerves and muscles in the body. Yoga also creates a balance in the body, develops strength and flexibility, it also increases spiritual awareness, helps to cultivate compassion and insight.

How often should I practice Yoga?

Devoting yourself completely to your practice requires commitment and discipline. Consistency is the key to gaining the benefits of yoga if you are unable to practice 4 to 6 days a week.

What do I bring to class?

You will need a yoga mat, towel and water and of course an open mind. There is water for purchase and a minimal number of mats to borrow at the studio. We just ask that you wipe them down with our tee tree oil after each use.

What do I need to know before I come to class?

Yoga is practiced barefoot and it is recommended that you do not eat a heavy meal 2 hours prior to coming to class. Every individual practice is unique so do not compare, come with an open mind and ready to begin your individual journey.

Do I need to be flexible to do Yoga?

No. A continued practice will help to increase flexibility. Self-acceptance and patience is important as you begin and continue your practice.

Will I sweat and loose weight?

The body generates heat through breathing exercises and yoga postures. With patience and a regular practice, these classes, help increase blood circulation muscle tone while building strength and endurance.

What does Namaste mean?

“The divine light in me honors the divine light in you.” “I bow to you.” It is a greeting and a salutation, but it commonly practiced at the end of class with hands in prayer while bowing forward as a symbol of gratitude and respect.

What is Yoga Etiquette?

Arrive to class 5-15 minutes early, especially if it’s your first time to the studio. If you arrive to class late, the door will be locked and you will be unable to enter. Turn off all cell phones, please remove shoes and place them and all belongings inside the cubby before entering the practice room. Be mindful of others that are lying quietly on their mat waiting for class to begin. Please refrain from leaving class early. Enjoy your practice
